Head of HSE
Omamuzo Burutu leads Awimax Energy Limited's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) function, with responsibility for the development, implementation and enforcement of Awimax's HSE management system across all company operations and project sites. His work is central to Awimax's zero-harm commitment and its delivery of EPCIC projects to the highest safety standards.
Safety is at the heart of everything Awimax Energy does, and Omamuzo ensures that this commitment is expressed through robust management systems, rigorous site safety practices, and a culture in which every member of the Awimax team — and every contractor who works alongside them — takes personal ownership of safety.
HSE Leadership
Omamuzo develops and maintains Awimax's HSE policies, standards and procedures, and ensures these are consistently applied across all project sites. He leads pre-project HSE planning — including hazard identification, risk assessment and development of project-specific HSE plans — and provides ongoing HSE oversight and support throughout project execution.
He conducts regular site HSE audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with Awimax's internal standards, client HSE requirements, and applicable Nigerian and international safety regulations. His hands-on presence on project sites sends a clear message to all site personnel about the importance Awimax places on safety performance.
Petroleum Facility Safety
Working in the oil and gas sector demands specialist HSE expertise. Omamuzo brings specific knowledge of the hazard profiles associated with petroleum storage, LPG handling, process piping and construction work in petroleum facilities — including fire and explosion risks, hazardous area classification, hot work control, and confined space entry procedures.
His background in process safety management ensures that Awimax's projects incorporate safety into design and construction from the outset, not just as a compliance requirement but as a genuine driver of better outcomes for clients and for the communities around the facilities Awimax builds.
HSE Culture
Omamuzo believes that safety performance is ultimately a cultural achievement, not just a procedural one. He champions the development of a positive safety culture at Awimax through toolbox talks, safety awareness training, incident investigation and learning, and visible leadership that models the safety behaviours expected of all team members.
